Bobcat Freshmen Impress in Debut Meet

Montana State finished the 36th Annual MSU/Bozeman Running Company Cross Country Meet with a second and third place finish. The men came in second behind Utah State with two top ten finishes, while the women placed third securing one top five rank.
Two freshman led the men's team, with two freshman placing in the in top 10. Justice Lamer came in second place, finishing in 26:05.80, just .77 seconds behind Utah State's Colby Wilson. Ty Mogan placed seventh overall (26:25.26) and Ethan Wilhelm crossed the finish line in 12th place (26:35.91). Front runner Jake Turner led for the majority of the race, before stepping out of the race in the final mile.
For the women, freshman Alyssa Snyder recorded the best time, running the three-mile course in 17:33.51, good enough for third place. Kaylee Schmitz came in 13th (17:52.04) and Louisa Serpa placed 16th (17:58.42). Montana's Makena Morley led the entire race, winning the event in 16:34.87.
"It was exciting to see two top ten from freshmen for the men and another for the women," head coach Lyle Weese said. "The athletes who were healthy ran very well, but we are encountering some adversity early on in the season. We're going to have to build on that to get stronger as the season progresses."
