COMPLETE RESULTS
Montana State Track and Field competed in the Utah Spring Classic Friday afternoon, hosted by the Utes of the University of Utah. Alongside Utah, the 'Cats competed against fellow Big Sky Conference members Idaho State and Weber State, in addition to Utah Valley, Utah State and Westminster.
"The University of Utah is always such a great place to compete," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "Not only are the facilities and scenery incredible, but the competition is always excellent. Coming away with some top finishes was great to see with the amount of talent that was here today."
Chantel Jaeger, Josephine Petruska and Paige Squire led the Bobcat sprinters on the women's side. Jaeger placed fifth in the 100, running a time of 11.84, while she won the 200 (24.44). Both of these times are BSC automatic qualifiers. Petruska followed Jaeger in the 100, crossing the finish line in 12.10 seconds in sixth place. The sophomore placed fourth in the 200, with a time of 25.08. Squire won the 100m hurdles, running the race in 13.83 seconds, good enough for the conference championships. The junior finished second in the 200 (1:01.06), also a qualifier.
Heather Demorest, Rachel Sullivan and Jenette Northey took the top three spots in the 5000, with Demorest breaking the McCarthey Family Track and Field facility record. The senior ran a 17:06.19 race, with Sullivan behind her (18:13.18) and Northey coming in third (18:14.30).
The women's 4x100 relay (Petruska, Iris Hardarson, Squire, Jaeger) ran its fastest race of the season, winning the event in 46.60 seconds.
Carley McCutchen won the long jump, jumping to number four on MSU's all-time top 10 list with 5.95m. Casey Teska and Amy Rovira went two-three in the pole vault, with Teska earning a bid to the conference championships. Teska cleared a height of 3.92, while Rovira made it up past 3.67m.
On the men's side, Cristian Soratos made his first appearance of the 2015 outdoor season, placing second in the 800 with a tie of 1:49.46. That time puts Soratos at number three on MSU's top 10 list and earns him a trip to the championships.
Michael Asay earned the top spot in the 5000, winning the race in 15:08.88.
Ryan Kropp cleared a height of 4.80m to place third in the pole vault, while Alex Lewis earned a second place finish in the long jump. Lewis jumped 6.99, just behind former Bobcat Jake Mushaben who competed unattached.
Kyle Douglass led the throwers, finishing third in the shot put, throwing a distance of 15.33.
