“Benny had a good second run, which made her our first All-American in the last two years,” MSU Head Alpine Coach Kevin Francis said. “I’m not sure how long it’s been for the alpine team. All the girls stepped it up on the second run to move up and score some good points for us.”
The Montana State ski team had another top ten finish at the 2015 NCAA Skiing Championships as newcomer Benedicte Lyche placed seventh in the giant slalom to garner Second-Team All-America honors, Thursday afternoon at Whiteface Mountain.
Lyche, a freshman from Oslo, Norway, notched a combined 2:25.22, including a 1:11.79 second-run which was the third fastest second attempt of the event. She was followed by teammates Kari Hole, 16th, 2:27.10, and Stephanie Irwin, 18th, 2:27.61.

The last Bobcat woman to earn All-America kudos in alpine was Spela Bertoncelj in 2006. Michael Radford captured Second-Team All-America accolades in 2012 at Bridger Bowl.
Mateja Robnik of New Mexico won the women's giant slalom title in 2:22.56.
Sophomore David Neuhauser paced the Bobcat men's squad and was the only MSU skier to complete the course. The Brandenberg, Austria product placed 12th overall in 2:19.83. Freshman Garret Driller did not finish his opening run, while David Owsley missed on his second attempt.
"It was a tough day for the men's team," Francis said. "David was our only guy to make it to the finish and despite a good second run; he was disappointed after having such a good performance at regionals."
Robert Cone of Middlebury won the men's crown in 2:16.79.
Utah took over the top spot in the team standings from Colorado on Thursday. The Utes racked-up 110 points in giant slalom for a four-event total of 241. Utah is followed in the top 10 by CU 237, Denver 232, New Mexico 204, Vermont 192, Dartmouth 159, Montana State 149, Middlebury 121, Alaska-Anchorage 115, and Northern Michigan 76.
The Nordic classical races will be held on Friday morning.
