Bobcat Nordic Skiers Stand Third After First Event at Utah Invitational

Two MSU men, women stand in top 10

(Jan. 24, 2026) – Katey Houser and Gavin Galyardt led Montana State to a third place standing after the first event at the University of Utah Invitational at Midway, Utah, on Saturday.

Houser, a senior, posted a mark of 20:24.1 in the Women's 7.5K Freestyle at Soldier Hollow on Saturday to finish fifth, one of two Bobcats in the top 10. Graduate student Felice Chappaz finished 10^th (21:37.3), while Maeve MacLeod (12^th, 21:41.6) also scored points for MSU. Ella Ronci finished 14^th with a mark of 21:56.2, Rosie Whittington-Evans was 18^th (22:25.7), and Sabine Comeau finished 26^th (24:44.8).

Two Bobcats logged top 10 finishes in the Men's 7.5K Freestyle. Junior Gavin Galyardt finished sixth with a mark of 18:17.3, and sophomore Grey Barbier finished ninth (18:27.5). Grad student Simon Chappaz also scored points for the Cats, finishing 15^th in 18:47.3. Fredrik Nilsen finished 22^nd in 19:03.6.

The Nordic segment of the event concludes on Sunday with the Classic competition.
