2/19/2015 10:58:00 PM | Women's Basketball
“It was a total team effort and we were able to have fresh legs for most of the game,” Binford said. “Defensively, it was a tremendous effort and we did a great job under the boards.”
A stifling defense, coupled with strong shooting helped the Montana State women's basketball team overcome 25 turnovers to record a crucial 60-49 Big Sky Conference win over Weber State, Thursday night in the Dee Events Center.
Montana State (12-13, 6-8) turned a turnover plagued first-half into a 24-8 advantage at the 4:34 mark on a layup by freshman Hannah Caudill. Weber State (11-14, 6-8) chipped the lead down to nine points at intermission. The Bobcats held a double-digit advantage throughout the second period before the Wildcats cut the margin to 35-27 with 13:07 remaining.
The Bobcats built is margin back to 13 points at the 8:59 mark on a pair of Kalli Durham free throws and never looked back.
The win draws MSU even with Weber State with six league victories; however, the Bobcats hold the tiebreaker over the Wildcats based on its season sweep of WSU. With Montana's win over Idaho State; MSU, WSU and ISU are tied for seventh place – eight teams make the Big Sky Tournament.
"We did a nice job grinding out a win over a physical team that did a great job taking away things in our offense," MSU Head Coach Tricia Binford said. "I thought in the first half our guards did a nice job with the skip pass and we knocked down the outside shot. In the second half, we were able to establish our post play.
