MSU Men's Basketball Trio Heads to SUU-NAU for Homecoming Weekend

Three Bobcats visit their home region this weekend
Montana State's Big Sky-opening men's basketball games at Southern Utah and Northern Arizona aren't officially designated as Homecoming on anyone's schedules, but they've been circled on the calendars of three Bobcats for quite a while.
Junior guards Nahjee Matlock and Stephan Holm and sophomore forward Zach Green each travel to their home regions this weekend, leading the Bobcats into the 2015-16 league season with games that carry special meaning. "I'm excited," says Matlock, a Las Vegas product with a dozen or so family members on their way to Cedar City, Utah, for Thursday afternoon's matchup with Southern Utah.
That feeling carries the day with the Bobcat trio. "I have a lot of family and friends" trekking two hours north of his native Phoenix area for MSU's Saturday matinee against the Lumberjacks, Green said. He has nearly 20 family members and friends making the trip, and more friends that attend school at Northern Arizona. "It's not often I get to go home and play," Green said. "Last year we played at Grand Canyon (in Phoenix), which is closer to home, but playing at home in Arizona feels really good."
Thursday's matchup is personal for Matlock, who shares Las Vegas roots with four Thunderbird players – Trey Kennedy, Travon Langston, Juwan Major and Matthew Johnson – and played at Tohono O'odham Community College in Arizona with a fifth, Christian Thompson. "We talk all the time," he says of his long-time friends.
Matlock is making his first conference road trip as a Bobcat and Green and Holm both play at Southern Utah and Northern Arizona for the first time in his careers, but Holm travels to his home state Thursday – he is from the Riverton, Utah, near Salt Lake City – with some good memories. In his two career games against Southern Utah, both in Bozeman, Holm has scored 41 points on 15-for-19 shooting with eight rebounds and two steals.
"I think both times I went in trying to be really aggressive and driving" to the basket, he said. "Being on the scout team we were trying to drive a lot, and that helped me. Both games I shot really well (from the perimeter), but I think that was by chance."
