Bison extend long home winning streak
The streak was threatened, but in the end extended.
North Dakota State used a deliberate pace to fend off a late Montana State rally, grabbing a 73-64 win in Fargo's Scheels Center on Wednesday. The win pushed NDSU's home winning streak to 29 games, fifth-longest in the nation.
"We fell right into their pace," said Montana State coach Brian Fish on the Bobcat Radio Network. "They wanted to play slow, we didn't plat fast, and we had another night (where) we missed six layups. We have to make close shots to win a game like this."
North Dakota State shot 47% from the floor, holding the Cats to 40% shooting in claiming the home win. The Bison shot 10 more free throws than MSU and turned the ball over three times fewer than the visitors.
Still, the Cats had a chance into the game's final minute. After a Marcus Colbert three-pointer cut NDSU's lead to 67-64. The Bobcats scrapped to the final seconds of the shot clock in search of a stop, but Bison guard Paul Miller picked an opportune time to get hot. North Dakota State's leading scorer, scoreless in the first half, drained a three-pointer with 30 seconds to seal the home team's win.
Miller finished with 11 points, one of Bison players in double-digit scoring. AJ Jacobson scored 16 points, and Dexter Werner had 11. Tyler Hall and Marcus Colbert each scored a dozen points for the Bobcats, while Danny Robison scored 11 and Zach Green 10.
North Dakota State raises its record to 7-3 with the win, while the Cats fall to 5-5. MSU plays at Buffalo on Saturday.
