Kennedy Tabs Seven for 2016-17

Montana State track and field and cross country will add seven new faces for the 2016-17 season, head coach Dale Kennedy announced last week.
ALEC NEHRING // Manhattan, Mont. // Throws // Undecided Major
Alec Nehring joins the Bobcat's from Manhattan, MT, where he claimed three team Montana State B track championships and earned two of his own in the discus and shot put as a junior. Nehring broke Manhattan High School's discus record his sophomore season and still had one season to compete with the Tigers. The three sport All-State athlete (football, basketball, track and field) broke the school's passing yards record this fall and was the leading scorer during the 2014-15 basketball season. Nehring wears many hats, as he is the National Honor Society President, the Student Body Vice President and the senior Class President.

KAYLEE OLYER // Meridian, Ida. // Sprints and Mid-Distance // Engineering
Kaylee Oyler comes to Bozeman as a five time Idaho 5A state champion, running for Rocky Mountain High in Meridian, Idaho. Oyler holds the state record in the 4x200 and 4x800 meter relays and was crowned the state champion in both events twice. She claimed an individual state title as a freshman, winning the 400 meter in 57.40 seconds. The senior received All-State honors and ranks among the top of her class academically, positioning eighth out of 512 students. Oyler is also a member of National Honors Society.

Coach Kennedy on Oyler: "Kaylee will be a strong addition to our 400/800 events in addition to our relays. Her PR's of 57.40 and 2:14.90 indicate that she will be immediately competitive in the Big Sky Conference. Additionally, Kaylee brings impressive academic credentials to coincide with her athletic accomplishments and will enroll in our College of Engineering. I'm really looking forward to seeing her develop and working with her at the collegiate level."
MCKENNA RAMSAY // Dillon, Colo. // Distance // Undecided Major
McKenna Ramsay joins Montana State as a four time state qualifier for Summit High School (Colorado 4A) in cross country and track and field. The senior was also a member of the Alpine and Nordic ski teams who won three collective state titles in her first three seasons. Ramsay was named the school's track athlete of the year in her first three seasons and will compete her final season this spring. As a freshman, Ramsay broke the school's 4x400, 400, 200, 800 and 4x800 records and as a junior claimed the Western State League MVP award. She earned academic all-state honors and was named Summit High's history and English student of the year.

Coach Weese on Ramsay: "McKenna has demonstrated a wide array of ability by running 56 seconds for 400 meters and also running well at the 5K cross country distance. She will contribute right away in the 400 and 800 meters on the track. McKenna will also make a significant contribution as she gets stronger aerobically in the 1500/mile as well as in cross country."
ELLEN BROOKS // Missoula, Mont. // Distance // Engineering
Ellen Brooks joins the 'Cats after an impressive prep career in cross country and track and field. Brooks found her top cross country finish this fall, when she finished fifth individually and earned a third place team finish. She has earned two Montana Class AA All-State awards in cross country, three in track and field and one in swimming. The senior holds the Sentinel High School record in 3-mile with a time of 17:27.90. Brooks is a member of honor roll, National Honor Society and has received Academic All-State awards, in addition to volunteering her time with Missoula Youth Track and the band.

Coach Weese on Brooks: "Ellen had a break out track season in 2015 and improved her 1600 meter best from 5:33 to 5:03. This dramatic improvement continued this fall in cross country where she was over a minute faster than in 2014 over the 3 mile race distance. Ellen will be an immediate contributor in the middle distance-events on the track as well as in cross country."
ISAAC BARVILLE // Spokane Valley, Wash. // Distance // Mechanical Engineering
Isaac Barville joins the Bobcats with an impressive high school resume, claiming the 4A Regional Team Championship title as a senior and earning All-Greater Spokane League honors the last two seasons. His junior year he claimed the regional title in the 1600 during the track season in route to breaking the school record. Barville is enrolled in the running start program through Eastern Washington, where he earned Dean's List honors.

With continued development, Isaac is likely to make an immediate impact at the conference level."
CAMERON CARROLL // Bremerton, Wash. // Distance // Business
Cameron Carroll joins MSU from Bremerton, Wash. where he earned four cross country and three track and field letters (will compete senior season in the spring). Carroll broke Central Kitsap High School's 800-meter record his sophomore year, before breaking his own record the following track season. This fall, Carroll won the individual title at districts, followed by a fifth place finish at the state meet. With a 3.89 GPA, he is part of the distinguished scholar program at Central Kitsap.

Coach Weese on Carroll: "Cameron has the speed to be a standout middle distance runner with a PR of 49 seconds in the open 400. His bests in the 800 (1:53) and 1600 (4:15) are already solid marks. However, Cameron's vast improvement from his junior to senior cross country seasons, indicate he will likely have a spectacular senior track season. Cameron will be very competitive in the middle distance events in the Big Sky Conference as a freshman."
NOAH MARTIN // Spokane, Wash. // Multis // Engineering
Noah Martin's stand-out high school career will likely make an immediate impact on the Bobcats. Martin won the 2015 Washington State 4A championships in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6'08", three inches shy of his personal best of 6'11". He earned All-Greater Spokane League honors in addition to an All-State award. Martin claimed the team's most inspirational and MVP award.

Coach Eitel on Martin: "Noah will come in right away and compete for a Big Sky Championship in the high jump. He is also a great vaulter and could potentially be a solid multi-athlete for us. We're excited to get him in and watch how his skill set improves over his time here."
