Madison Kast, a 6-1 forward from Visalia, California, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Montana State women’s basketball team next season, announced Bobcat head coach Tricia Binford, Monday afternoon
Madison Kast, a 6-1 forward from Visalia, California, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Montana State women's basketball team next season, announced Bobcat head coach Tricia Binford, Monday afternoon.
A senior at Redwood High School, Kast led the Rangers to a 20-6 overall mark last season, averaging 11.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, 2.4 steals and 1.8 assists per game. For her efforts, she was named first-team All-West Yosemite League and was a Fresno Bee All-Star selection. Kast was also named most valuable defensive player and was a Tulare County first-team honoree.
Kast led RHS to the WYL championship. En route to the title, the Rangers knocked off perennial conference power Hanford High School, who owned a 96-game league winning streak. In the game, Kast posted 15 points, 12 rebounds, five steals, four blocks and four assists.
"Madison has a great motor north and south and has perimeter and post skills that really play into our style," Binford said. "She can exchange from small forward to the power forward position with her ability to shoot, transition, and attack the basket. She is a relentless and tough competitor."
Kast is on pace to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, and becoming just the second Redwood High School player to accomplish the milestone since 2010.
Prior to Redwood High School, Kast played her freshman and sophomore seasons at San Joaquin Memorial in Fresno, California. A two-year starter at SJM, she was a two-time first-team All-CMAC pick. As a sophomore, Kast garnered honorable-mention Fresno Bee accolades.
She is the daughter of Tanya and Larry Kast.
Kast joins Oliana Squires, a 5-8 guard from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Madeline Smith, a 6-1 forward from Snohomish, Washington, as part of Binford's early signing class.
"I am most proud that we are signing three high character student-athletes that fit into our core values of excellence on the court, in the classroom, and in the community," Binford said.
Binford indicated the Bobcats could sign one more player during the spring period.
