Senior Jasmine Hommes led four Montana State players in double-figures with a team-high 18 points as the Bobcats won its season-opener against Seattle University, Friday night in Key Arena.

Senior Jasmine Hommes led four Montana State players in double-figures with a team-high 18 points as the Bobcats won its season-opener against Seattle University, Friday night in Key Arena.

Hommes, a product of Lynden, Washington connected on nine-of-21 from the field. The 18 points left the 6-1 forward one shy of 1,000 points on her career. Also in double-digits for MSU were Peyton Ferris, 14, Delany Junkermier 11, and Riley Nordgaard 10.

Ferris, who was the 2014-15 Big Sky Conference Top Reserve of the Year, did most of her damage at the free throw line, converting six-of-seven tosses. In all, the Bobcats connected on 19-23 free throws for 83 percent.

Montana State built a 16-11 lead after a pair of Ferris charity tosses to close out the opening quarter. The Bobcats rattled off 12 straight points in the second stanza and pushed the lead to 40-25 on a Junkermier triple 44-seconds prior to intermission.

In the third quarter, the Bobcats carried its momentum as Hommes buried a jumper with 48-seconds left to give MSU a 64-44 advantage.

Montana State built its largest lead at 80-49 with 2:31 remaining as freshman Annika Lai connected on a free throw.

The Bobcats won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding Seattle 51-36. MSU was led under the glass by Nordgaard with eight boards, and Hommes and Ferris with seven each. Senior point guard Lindsay Stockton finished the contest with five points, six assists and six rebounds.

"It was a great team effort and I thought our resilience on the boards was a key," said MSU head coach Tricia Binford, who opened her 11^th season at the helm of the Bobcat program. "We made it a point of emphasis to control the boards, both home and away and this is a fantastic start.

"We also had fantastic contributions throughout our line up," Binford added. "We now have some areas on film that we can build on."

Taelor Ross led the Redhawks with 18 points and seven rebounds.

"Ross is a tough player and she is hard to guard," Binford said. "She really challenged us in the paint and that is something we can work to improve."

Montana State will face the University of Nevada, Sunday afternoon in Reno.
