Newcomers shine in Bobcat debuts

Hawai'i used first-half scoring runs of 19-0 and 14-2 to take control of the game and withstood a late rally to post an 87-76 win over Montana State in the season opener for both teams in Honolulu on Friday.

Freshman Tyler Hall scored 15 points in his Bobcat debut, sharing team-high honors with sophomore Zach Green. Junior Quinton Everett scored 10 in his Bobcat debut.

Hawai'i closed the first half on a 14-4 run to take control of the game, but the Bobcats hung tough on the strength of 50% shooting from the floor and four three-pointers. Green hit two of those, doubling his made three-point field goals for all of 2014-15.

Of Montana State's 76 points against Hawai'i, 41 came from players making their Bobcat debuts. New forward Sarp Gobeloglu, a junior, snagged a team-high six rebounds, while Hall, Everett and new guard Nahjee Matlock each grabbed five.

Montana State returns to action at 5 pm MT on Saturday, facing Hawai'i-Hilo.
