MSU Harriers head to Missoula on Saturday
10/2/2015 3:33:00 PM | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country, Cross Country
The Bobcat cross country teams will compete on the road at the Montana Invitational on Saturday morning in Missoula, Mont. The women's 5k begins at 10:30 a.m., while the men's 8k starts at 11:15 a.m.
The meet will consist of a handful of solid Division I opponents, including host school Montana, Idaho State and Gonzaga's men's team. Carroll, Montana-Western, MSU-Northern, Rocky and College of Idaho are among the non-division I programs competing.
"It was nice to have a week off from competition after the home meet to train and continue building toward the championship meets in October and November," head cross country coach Lyle Weese said. "The first meet of the year resulted in some athletes happy with their performance and others with feelings of disappointment. Regardless of how the first meet went, everyone did a great job of attacking the training this week and continuing the process of improvement."
Montana State's women's program currently sits in the 10th ranked spot in the Mountain Region poll, after underclassman Alyssa Snyder led the 'Cats in the MSU invitational in September. Snyder placed third, leading MSU to a third place finish. Kaylee Schmitz, Louisa Serpa and Chiara Warner will likely finish the competition with fast times as well.
On the men's side, Jake Turner will rest for the weekend after acquiring an injury at the MSU Invite. Justice Lamer, who had a breakout performance at the MSU Invite, is a likely favorite. Diego Leon is back to full strength and will look to finish towards the top of the field.
"Based on the training over the past two weeks, I expect both the men and women to see fairly dramatic improvement from the first meet in regards to overall team performance."
