Portland State Races Away from Bobcats

Hot-shooting Vikings lead from pillar to post in beating Bobcats
Portland State took control at the tipoff and maintained throughout, racing to an 80-62 win in Portland on Saturday.
The Vikings scored on a second-chance opportunity 19 seconds into the game and never trailed. In fact, from that point on the game was never tied. The Vikings shot 56% for the game, which MSU coach Brian Fish called the determining factor.
"We wanted to guard, we wanted to get stops, and we gave up 47 points in the first half," he said. "We played a team that was upset they lost Thursday and we didn't match their intensity. We didn't get down and guard."
The Vikings shot better than 50% from the floor in each half, and hit nine of their 11 three-pointers. Da'Shaun Wiggins led all players with 18 points. He also grabbed three boards with two steals. Gary Winston (11), Tim Douglas (17) and Tiegbe Bamba (10) all scored in double-digits for PSU.
The Bobcats played within a dozen or so points throughout the early portion of the second half, but mistakes were the Bobcats' undoing, Fish said. "We had some big turnovers in key possessions early in the second half," he said. "We had some break opportunities and threw it away. When you're down by 10 or 12 you have to be near perfect, and we just weren't."
Michael Dison scored 13 points to lead the Bobcats. Eric Norman grabbed 10 boards and blocked a pair of shots.
The Bobcats return home Thursday to host Big Sky foe Idaho at 7 pm.
