* Montana State will make its stretch run playing four games in the next eight days, beginning at Southern Utah on Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m. in Cedar City. The Bobcats will close out the regular-season hosting three home games starting Monday, March 3, with the 96th meeting between MSU and the Lady Griz.
* The Big Sky Conference playoff scene is still a muddled mess. The only givens so far have North Dakota, Southern Utah, Montana and Eastern Washington securing four of the seven postseason invitations. Heading into Saturday's game at SUU, Idaho State and Sacramento State are 1/2 game ahead of MSU, while Northern Colorado is a game back, and Northern Arizona 2 1/2 behind the 7th and final spot. North Dakota - at 14-4 - has the upper-hand in terms of hosting the tourney.
* In their first meeting with Southern Utah on Jan. 30 in Worthington Arena, the Bobcats saw a 16-point first half advantage disappear with 3:28 left in the game as the Thunderbirds rallied for an 87-81 victory. Sophomore Jasmine Hommes notched a career-high 24 points connecting on 11-of-19 from the field. Also in double-figures for MSU were Jackie Elliott 17, Ausha Cole 10, and Kayla DeWit 10. Hailey Mandelko paced SUU with 22 points, while Carli Moreland added 19 points and 15 rebounds.
* Montana State holds a 12-3 lead in its all-time series with Southern Utah dating back to the first meeting on Nov. 29, 1988 - a 76-52 Bobcat victory in Bozeman. The Thunderbirds' win over MSU on Jan. 30 snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Bobcats. SUU's last win over MSU in the Centrum came in an 85-64 decision over the Bobcats on Dec. 11, 1993.
* Montana State broke an eight game run of being out-rebounded at Weber State last Saturday, owning a 43-34 edge on the glass.
* Southern Utah (18-8, 12-5) kept its chances for a regular-season Big Sky Conference title and hosting rights for the tournament alive with a 69-49 drubbing of Montana on Wednesday night in Cedar City. SUU was led by Hailey Mandelko with 18 points, while Carli Moreland and Lori Parkinson chipped in 15 and 10 points, respectively. The T-Birds shot 46 percent from the field, while holding the Lady Griz to just 25 percent. McCalle Feller was the only UM player in double-digits with 10 points.
* Ausha Cole's 112 assists are the most for a Bobcat player since Erica Perry finished with 146 during the 2007-08 campaign.
* Senior Ashley Brumwell is putting her name in the MSU record books as her career in the Blue and Gold winds down. The Hamilton product is 15th all-time in scoring with 1,143 points; 12th in rebounding with 640 boards and 2nd in blocked shots with 128.
* Monday's game with Montana will be the 96th between the two rivals. UM defeated MSU 84-79 in OT on Feb. 3 in Missoula.
A FULL PLATE:
Ashley Brumwell has a lot on her plate. In addition to her playing gig, the 5th-year senior just completed a student-teaching stint in the math at Bozeman High and received her undergraduate degree in December. Brumwell (nee' Albert) notched a career-high 26 points in MSU's win over Eastern Washington on Jan. 11. Last weekend, she averaged 16 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 54 percent. She is currently 2nd on MSU's all-time career blocks chart with 128 swats.
SHE'S A KICK:
Jackie Elliott averaged 24.5 minutes of action last weekend in games at Idaho State and Weber State. For the weekend, she totaled seven points and five rebounds, while dishing out four assists. In Big Sky action, she is averaging 9.4 points and 6.3 boards per game. Elliott, who was the 2010-11 Montana High School Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year, is majoring in mechanical engineering.
FROM THE TOWN THAT MADE VIOLET BEAUREGARDE FAMOUS:
Miles City product Kalli Durham, who has strong family ties to Montana State (grandfather Lin, Uncle Mick and cousin Casey played for the Bobcat men's team), led MSU at Idaho State with a team-high 19 points. For the weekend, she averaged 13.5 ppg. The daughter of former UM-Western Athletic Director and men's basketball coach Mark Durham, she has been in double-digits in 14 games this winter. Durham has recorded 38 career double-figure scoring games in three seasons.
ALL IN THE FAMILY:
Jasmine Hommes has started all 25 games and is averaging team-best 13.7 points, while pulling down 4.2 boards per contest. Hommes posted a career-best 24 points vs. So. Utah on Jan. 30. Last weekend, she averaged 16.5 points per game- including 18 at Weber State. In Big Sky play, Hommes is averaging 15.4 ppg. She also has strong ties to the MSU women's basketball program. She is the niece of former MSU and Big Sky MVP Blythe Hommes and former MSU and All-Big Sky performer Brooke Svendsen. Hommes' aunts made a combined 130 starts for MSU.
BABY TALK:
After taking last year off on maternity leave, Ausha Cole has returned to the Bobcat line-up. Cole has been in double-digits in six games, including a season-high 12 points vs. Montana and E. Washington. Cole is first in the Big Sky at 5.6 assists per game. Her assist/turnover ratio of +2.4 is tops in the Big Sky. On a side note, her biggest fan/daughter, Kadence, celebrated her 1st birthday on Nov. 19, 2013.
DAWK AND STOCK:
Alexa Dawkins has done a nice job coming off the bench this season. The former Bozeman High product is averaging 4.5 points and 3.9 rebounds in league play. Her 10 rebounds at Portland State on Feb. 8 were a career-high. Lindsay Stockton is averaging 4.4 points in 14.1 minutes of action this winter. Stockton recorded a Big Sky Conference personal season-high 14 points in MSU's win over Weber State on Jan. 23. Lindsay is the daughter of legendary NBA Hall of Famer and former Utah Jazz standout John Stockton, while Dawkins' father Dale played football on the University of Miami's 1987 National Championship team. Dawkins later went on to play wide receiver for the New York Jets from 1990-93.
FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS:
Redshirt freshman Margreet Barhoum is averaging 14.1 minutes per game coming off the bench in Big Sky action. Against Portland State, she registered a career-high 13 points on Feb. 8 in the Rose City. Last weekend, Barhoum averaged 6.0 points and 1.5 assists per game. The Edmonds, Wash., recorded a career-high six assists in MSU's win over Portland State on Jan. 9. DeNOTE ON DeWIT:
