Danny Robison scores career-high 24 points for MSU
Danny Robison scored a career-high 24 points, but it wasn't enough as Portland sailed past the Bobcats 87-60 at the Chiles Center on Saturday.
Robison finished 8-for-11 from the field, including 3-for-5 from three-point range, while connecting on only half of his 10 charity tosses. Terrell Brown's 11 points made him the only other Bobcats in double-digit scoring.
The game boiled down to shooting, and MSU didn't do that well enough. The Bobcats shot 36.7% from the floor to Portland's 55%, and the Pilots shot 50% from the arc. Portland out-rebounded the Bobcats 31-to-26 and blocked eight MSU shots, forcing 14 Bobcat turnovers while giving the ball away just 10 times.
The Bobcats started well, leading 16-14 with 11:29 to play in the first half after a jumper by Brown. But a 12-2 Portland run gave the Pilots control of the game, which they'd never relinquish. In fact, after a Bobby Sharp three-pointer, the Bobcats would never pull to within single-digits.
Bryce Pressley led four Pilots in double-digits with 17 points. Thomas van der Mars added 12 points, D'Marques Tyson scored 11 and Volodymyr Gerun chipped in 10. Jason Todd led all players with eight rebounds for the Pilots.
Montana State closes 2014 on Tuesday, hosting Wyoming at 7 pm in Worthington Arena.
