MSU makes 2014-15 home debut
Montana State endured a 12-day, four-game road trip, surviving Rupp Arena and Pauley Pavilion, and the light at the end of the tunnel arrives Friday. The Bobcats play their first home game of the 2014-15 season, hosting UT Arlington at 7 pm.
Friday's contest marks a series of firsts for this year's Bobcat squad. The team's first official home game of the season is also the first game for the squad in renovated Worthington Arena, and the first home contest for first-year coach Brian Fish.
The challenge is plenty steep. The Mavericks lost to Kentucky in its most recent outing, but brings a 3-2 mark into Worthington Arena Friday that includes road wins over Bradley and Grand Canyon. UTA plays an up-tempo style, says MSU junior forward Danny Robison.
"They push it and play fast all the time," he said. "That will be a challenge."
Lonnie McClanahan leads the way off the bench, averaging 12.0 points. He averages nearly seven free throws a game, hitting those at a 73% clip. Jamel Outler chips in 10.6 points a game.
In spite of an 0-4 start, Fish is happy with what he's seen at times. "I like the way they responded this week (in practice)," he said. "I've said this a lot, but we're going to have to play a certain way to win games. We need to continue to make progress."
After Friday's game, the Cats remain at home to host North Dakota State Sunday at 5 pm.
