Bobcat Second Half Run Lifts MSU Women to Exhibition Win over Carroll

“I’m pleased with our performance,” said MSU Head Coach Tricia Binford, who enters her 10th year at Montana State. “I thought we did a nice job defending. Our kids had good focus and effort. However, we certainly need some work rebounding on both ends of the floor.”
The Montana State women's basketball team used a 20-7 run at the midway mark of the second half to propel them to a 59-49 win over Carroll College, Saturday afternoon in exhibition action.
Leading 35-34 with 14:55 remaining in the game, MSU rattled off an 11-3 run as five different Bobcats scored, taking a 46-37 advantage following a Jasmine Hommes three-pointer. Montana State built its largest lead at 55-41 with 6:23 left on a Hommes layup.
"I'm pleased with our performance," said MSU Head Coach Tricia Binford, who enters her 10th year at Montana State. "I thought we did a nice job defending. Our kids had good focus and effort. However, we certainly need some work rebounding on both ends of the floor."
Montana State shot 40 percent for the game, including 42 percent in the second half. The Bobcats committed just eight turnovers, while forcing Carroll into 18 miscues and just 35 percent shooting in the final stanza.
"Our offensive tempo showed a lot of improvement," Binford said. "We had good shot selection, but had a hard time getting some shots to fall. We'll continue to stick to the process."
Hommes finished the contest with a game-high 19 points, while Lindsay Stockton came off the bench for 16 points, while dishing out eight assists. Hommes also led the Bobcats under the glass with six rebounds, while Alexa Dawkins added five boards.
"Lindsay was a huge spark and did a nice job dictating tempo in the early going," Binford said. "I thought Ausha Cole gave us a lift in the second half, especially with her defensive pressure. In addition, Jasmine defended really well. We challenged some kids and it was nice to see them apply those things."
Carroll was paced by Kalee Junkermier and Baylee Watson with 11 points, apiece.
MSU will host Minot State on Nov. 9 in Worthington Arena.
