Dakota Prukop shines, and Gunner Brekke reaches a single-game milestone

Anyone who expected anything but thrills in Montana State's Saturday night game at Sacramento State doesn't know the history of that series. The last three games between those teams in that venue have been decided by exactly three points.

But no one could have reasonably expected the offensive fireworks that occurred. The teams combined for 115 points, including 80 in the second half and 49 in the fourth quarter. MSU and Sac rolled up 59 first downs and 1,313 yards. The primary instigators were quarterbacks Dakota Prukop of MSU and Garrett Safron of Sac State. Prukop was 23-for-34 passing with five touchdowns and 348 yards, and he rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns. Sac State's Garrett Safron was 25-for-39 passing with five touchdowns, carrying for 146 yards.

BOBCAT NOTES
• Dakota Prukop became the second Bobcat in history to rush for 100 yards and throw for 300 in a single game (348/140) against Sacramento State on Saturday, joining Travis Lulay (vs. EWU, 2004). Hornets quarterback Garrett Safron also reached that milestone, and it is believed to be the first time in Big Sky history for that opposing quarterbacks have each reached that milestone.
• Dakota Prukop is the third Bobcat quarterback ever to rush for 100 yards in two different games (joining John Tetrault and Travis Lulay), but the first to do it in a single season.
• Before this season, only Michael Jefferson (305 vs. Idaho State in 2006) recorded 300 all-purpose yards in a single game. It has happened twice in 2014 – Shawn Johnson, 374 vs. Eastern Washington, and Gunnar Brekke, 308 vs. Sacramento State.
• Dakota Prukop set a school record Saturday by accounting for eight touchdowns (combined passing and throwing), and tied a school record with five touchdown passes. The last to accomplish that was Rob Compson in 1998.
• Montana State completes 68.9% of its passes on the season, the best mark in the Big Sky and fourth-best in the FCS.
• Dakota Prukop has rushed for nine touchdowns this season, one from joining the school's single-season top 10 list.
• At several points on Saturday, MSU had four players – Dakota Prukop, Mitch Griebel, Tanner Roderick and Quinn McQueary – who came to MSU as a quarterback on the field at one time.
