Haslam Joins Bobcat Coaching Staff

Former Wyoming big man rounds out men's basketball staff
The Montana State men's basketball coaching staff got bigger in every way Tuesday, when Bobcat head coach Brad Huse announced the hiring of former University of Wyoming center Chris Haslam.
"I went into this process looking for a coach who could fill a unique niche in this position, and Chris does that," Huse said of Haslam, who played at 6-11, 270 as a Cowboy. "Being from England and having played in multiple European countries as a professional he has international recruiting ties that we haven't had here. In addition, Chris' long professional career and ability to work with post players will provide balance to our staff."
Haslam joins the Bobcat staff after three seasons at Lamar (Colo.) Community College. He helped that squad to a Region IX title in 2010-11, and recruited and coached a pair of all-region players. He previously coached the professional Everton Tigers as a player-assistant (2008-10) and Everton Academy (2009-10) as head coach, both in Liverpool, England.
Huse cites attributes off the court as contributing to his decision to bring Haslam into the Bobcat program. "He is a great person and he'll work hard for our student-athletes," he said. "He'll be a solid contributor to our athletic department and school. I know Chris is excited to introduce his family to the Bozeman community and he will largely contribute to the family atmosphere I continue to emphasize within our program."
Huse indicated that the addition of Haslam rounds out the Bobcat staff. He joins Shawn Dirden, entering his fourth season covering two separated stints at MSU, and newcomers Justin Wetzel and graduate assistant Luke Fennelly, a Whitefish native from Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore.
"I really like the makeup of our staff and we have a nice mix of energy, playing and coaching experience, and recruiting diversity," Huse said. "Finally, all three (new) coaches fully understand our commitment to recruiting the type of student-athlete that will be successful academically and on the floor at Montana State University."
