It wasn’t pretty, but it was a win as the Montana State women rallied from a nine-point first half deficit to post a 50-36 victory over Carroll College in its final non-conference outing of the season, Friday night in Worthington Arena.

It wasn't pretty, but it was a win as the Montana State women rallied from a nine-point first half deficit to post a 50-36 victory over Carroll College in its final non-conference outing of the season, Friday night in Worthington Arena.

Trailing 17-8 and shooting just 19 percent from the field, Montana State (5-4) steadily chipped away at the lead, scoring seven points in the final 51-seconds, including a 23-foot three-pointer by Ashley Brumwell at the buzzer, to enter intermission locked-up at 21-all.

"We did a lot of things to defeat ourselves," said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. "We were missing assignments and not playing with any intensity. Carroll also did a nice job mixing things up."

Bobcat junior Jackie Elliott opened the second half scoring six of MSU's first eight points as MSU built a six-point cushion and a lead it would never relinquish. Both teams went scoreless for four minutes midway through the half before the Bobcats received an Elliott layup followed by a Lindsay Stockton triple to secure the win.

"In a game like this you tend to dwell on the negative," Binford said. "But, in the end, we did some things well and limited them to just 15 points in the second half on 25 percent shooting."

Stockton and Elliott paced the Bobcats with 12 and ten points, respectively. Stockton, a sophomore from Spokane, Wash., connected on five-of-eight from the field, including two 3-pointers, while Elliott converted five-of-six from the floor.
MSU finished the game shooting 40 percent from the field, including 48 percent in the final period. The Bobcats also out-rebounded the Saints 40-30. Montana State was led under the glass by Kayla DeWit with a game and career-high nine rebounds. The Columbia Falls native also added nine points. Brumwell notched a career-high five blocks and is now third on MSU's all-time career list with 107 swats.

Carroll College was paced by Bailey Snelling with 11 points, including a three-of-eight effort from long distance.

MSU will open Big Sky Conference play at Sacramento State on Jan. 2.
