Weber State was exactly what the Montana State volleyball team needed. The Bobcats used a balanced attack to cruise by the Wildcats 25-14, 25-23, 25-15 to snap its six-match losing streak, Friday night in Shroyer Gym.
Ironically, it was Montana State's (6-20, 4-11) sweep of Weber State (7-22, 3-12) in Ogden on Oct. 5 that broke a then six-match losing streak by the Bobcats.
Montana State opened the match with five straight points and never looked back, winning the first stanza behind a .424 attack mark. The second set featured 15 ties, before MSU broke away from 22-all with a 3-1 run clinching the set on a kill via Kennadie Clute. In the final game, the Bobcats jumped on the Wildcats early staking a 7-0 advantage and won the contest on a Loni Kreun block.
"We had great contributions from every position on the floor and our attackers did a good job giving us some big kills," said second-year head coach Kyle Weindel. "I thought we played tough and it's great seeing the team really starting to come together and play more for each other."
Clute paced Montana State with 12 kills for her 26th straight double-figure kill match. MSU also received strong contributions from Eli Svisco, Kreun and Natalee Godfrey with nine, eight and seven kills, respectively.
Freshman Anna Sykora dished out 34 assists, while adding five digs, two kills and two aces. Defensively, the Bobcats were led by Nicole Baker with a match-high 16 digs, while Clute added seven saves. Godfrey paced all MSU players at the net with a team-best three blocks.
"We had great energy," Weindel said. "From the court to the end of the bench, everyone was in to it."
Weber State was led by Rebecca Fuchs with seven kills and seven digs.
MSU will face Idaho State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Shroyer Gym.
