Bobcat Spikers Close-Out Season at Home

The Montana State volleyball team will wrap up its 2013 season when it hosts Sacramento State and Montana Thursday, Nov. 21 and Monday, Nov. 25, respectively.

THE SEASON FINALE`:
The Montana State volleyball team will wrap up its 2013 season when it hosts Sacramento State and Montana Thursday, Nov. 21 and Monday, Nov. 25, respectively. Both matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m. On Thursday, the Bobcats can play the role of spoiler as Sacramento State and Northern Colorado are fighting for the final Big Sky Conference playoff berth. Thursday will also serve a Senior Night, and will celebrate the careers of Nicole Baker and Megan Spofford. Monday will be the annual 'Shake Shroyer' match against intra-state rival Montana. The first 500 through the door will receive a free t-shirt.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR:
Montana State outside hitter Kennadie Clute has not only established herself as one of the top freshman in the Big Sky this fall, but she is also one of the best in the nation. The Bobcat rookie ranks first in the country for freshmen, averaging 4.36 kills per set, which ranks 21st overall at the NCAA Division I level. The Spokane native is first in the nation for freshmen in points per game, as well, at 4.79 per set, which is 27th overall.
'CAT CHAT:
Aside from Clute's numbers this season, the Bobcats are also getting strong contributions from another pair of freshman. Setter Anna Sykora is averaging 10.55 assists per game, which is the sixth highest total by a freshman at the NCAA Division I level this fall. Outside hitter Loni Kreun is currently second on the squad averaging 2.85 kills per set...Libero Nicole Baker is ranked 73rd in the nation and first in Big Sky Conference action averaging .35 aces per game. Baker has a career total of 129 service aces, which is seventh on MSU's all-time list...Baker also has notched a career 1,531 digs, which is 3rd all-time at Montana State.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS:
Sacramento State is 14-15 overall and 9-9 in Big Sky play. The Hornets are one game up on Northern Colorado for the final league tournament spot. Sac. State has dropped four of its last five outings. The Hornets are led by Sloan Lovett and Kayla Beal at 3.17 and 3.05 kills per set, respectively.
FAB FROSH, PART I:
Kennadie Clute, a 6-1 outside hitter from Spokane, continues to be Montana State's top offensive threat, racking up a Big Sky best 527 points in the first 29 matches. In addition, Clute has been in double-figure kills in 28 of 29 matches. She is ranked first in the league averaging 4.36 kills per set and her 31 kills against Northern Arizona is the top mark in the Big Sky, as well.
GOOD GODFREY:
Sophomore Natalee Godfrey has put together a solid season for the Bobcats and is currently second on the squad hitting .270 from the field, while averaging 1.95 kills per set. Last weekend, she averaged 2.5 kills and .50 blocks.
FAB FROSH, PART II:
Freshman Anna Sykora continued her hot-hand. The 5-11 setter from Rapid City, SD, dished out 92 assists last weekend and has a single-season total of 1,160 assists, which is eighth best in MSU history.
THE BUTCHER, THE BAKER, THE DIG-MAKER:
Senior libero Nicole Baker is moving up the all-time MSU digs chart. She is currently third all-time with 1,531 saves. Her current 3.65 dps is seventh best in the league, while her .35 aces give her the top spot in the Big Sky listings.
FAB FROSH, PART III:
Freshman outside hitter Loni Kreun is averaging 2.85 kills per set. Kreun is second on the team with 346.5 points. In addition, she is second on the squad, averaging 2.25 digs per contest and has totaled 32 blocks.
E-LECTRFYING:
After a slow start to the season, sophomore outside hitter Eli Svisco is finding her groove. Svisco pounded down 16 kills last weekend, including ten kills against Northern Arizona. On the year, she is averaging 1.57 kills per set.
