Montana State freshman phenom Kennadie Clute was held to single digit kills for the first time this season and Southern Utah out-blocked the Bobcats to post a 22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-15 win, Thursday night in the Centrum.
"We came out flat and were stagnant pretty much the entire match," said MSU head coach Kyle Weindel. "Zoe (Gogan) came in and gave us a nice spark, but we just didn't have it. It's disappointing coming off a great weekend against Weber State and Idaho State. We'll move on to Northern Arizona on Saturday."
Gogan finished with a career-high 14 kills, while Loni Kreun also matched the total with 14 kills of her own. Freshman setter Anna Sykora dished out 40 assists and added 14 digs. Kreun also posted a double-double with 16 kills. Nicole Baker 16 and Kasey Schlatter 14 also posted double-digit digs.
Montana State (6-22, 4-13) was led at the net by Megan Spofford with a team-best three blocks.
Southern Utah (4-24, 3-14) shut down Clute, limiting the Big Sky's best hitter to eight kills and a -.024 attack mark. The Thunderbirds out-blocked the Bobcats 21-7 and held a .225 to .106 hitting percentage advantage.
Anna Clappier guided SUU with 15 kills and nine blocks.
MSU will play at Northern Arizona on Saturday.
