Montana State Women Open Exhibition Season against Great Falls

The Montana State women’s basketball team will open its brief exhibition season when it hosts the University of Great Falls, Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in Worthington Arena. MSU will conclude the week with an exhibition game against Montana-Western on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.

"With these two exhibition games, we need to build up some discipline for what we've been drilling on over the course of the last few weeks," said ninth-year head coach Tricia Binford. "We can't get caught-up in our opponent. Transition defense - with our match-ups and communication - will be something we'll take a good, hard look at. We need to be disciplined with our offensive decision making and ability to control the tempo."
Binford returns three starters and ten letterwinners from a squad that posted a 17-13 overall mark and an 11-9 Big Sky Conference slate, last winter. Returning starters include Kalli Durham (12 ppg), Ashley Brumwell (8.8 ppg) and Emily Allen (2.4 ppg). In fact, all eleven players on the opening day roster were on the squad last year.
"The exciting thing about this team is that everyone has experience and familiarity with the program," Binford said. "We'll need everyone to make an impact. I really like the balance this team brings to the court."
Great Falls is 2-0 overall with wins over MacEwan (84-60) and the University of Lethbridge (80-68). In its two games, the Argos have received balanced scoring as four players average double-figures. Junior Lindsey Abramson paces the team averaging 20 points and 16 rebounds per game, while shooting 54 percent from the field. Also in double-digits are Erin Legal, 17, Taylor Statton, 14.5, and Nneka Nnadi, 10.5 ppg. UGF is coached by Bill Himmelberg, who is in his fourth season in the Electric City.
MSU WBB NOTES:
The 2013-14 edition of Montana State women's basketball will be carried live on 1450 AM. In the event of broadcasting conflict, game will be carried on 103.5 FM. Riley Corcoran is the new play-by-play man for the Bobcat women's team. Corcoran, a Montana native and graduate of Billings Central, joins MSU after a stint as director of media relations and broadcasting for the Wilson Tobs Baseball Club in North Carolina.
In other news… Former Bozeman radio personality Colleen O'Quinn, who served as station manager for Townsquare Media from 2001-13 and morning host, will begin her first season as public address announcer for Bobcat women's basketball home games.
