Bobcat Women Ready for Blue-Gold Scrimmage

The Montana State women’s basketball program will give the public its first look at its 2013-14 edition with the annual Blue-Gold scrimmage, Friday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. in Worthington Arena.

The scrimmage will feature two 20-minute periods and is free of charge to spectators.
Montana State head coach Tricia Binford returns for her ninth season with the Bobcats, after leading MSU to a 17-13 overall mark and an 11-9 Big Sky Conference slate, last winter.
Binford returns three starters in Emily Allen, Ashley Brumwell and Kalli Durham. In addition, the Bobcats return ten letterwinners and welcome back point-guard Ausha Cole, who sat out last season on maternity leave.
The Bobcats are three weeks in to its preseason drills and will host the University of Great Falls in exhibition action on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
"We've made great progress," Binford said. "Our defense right now is really coming along and I think we're making a great effort on that end of the floor. The next few weeks we'll go a little more intense as far as throwing some new things on to the table as we prepare for our first few games."
Durham, a junior from Miles City, returns as MSU's leading scorer from last season. The 5-7 guard averaged 12 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Also looking to contribute will be Brumwell, a 6-1 senior from Hamilton, who averaged 8.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per outing.
The Bobcat backcourt will be bolstered by the return of Cole. As a sophomore, the native of Mesa, Ariz., dished out 3.1 assists and chipped in 1.9 steals per game.
"As far as the scrimmage is concerned, I'd like to see our communication get a whole lot better," Binford said. "We're still trying to work ourselves into shape, so to speak. We need to be assertive with each other and comfortable with what is happening on the court.
"Offensively, we need to clean things up and limit our errors," Binford said. "So far, I like what I see and we address things when we're not meeting expectations. We're focusing on getting better."
MSU will open its regular-season when it hosts Cal State Northridge on Nov. 10.
