On Retro Day, A Look at Some Good MSU Memories from Dahlberg Arena

As a tip of the cap to UM's Retro Day, here is a walk down memory lane
Montana's men's and women's basketball programs celebrate Retro Day on Saturday, with the Grizzlies and Lady Griz honoring their past with home uniforms lined in the traditional copper, silver and gold of years past. As a tip of the hat to Retro Day, we thought it might be fun to share the stroll down memory lane with a glance at some of Montana State's successes against the Grizzlies in Dahlberg Arena…
Montana State 73, Montana 67 – February 27, 2010
In one of the great single days in Bobcat basketball history, MSU's men followed a 77-72 win by the Bobcat women with a 73-67 triumph in the nightcap. Will Bynum – remember that name – turned in a wonderful performance, scoring 22 points with three assists, two steals and five rebounds. Remarkably, MSU visited the free throw line 39 times, outscoring the Grizzlies by nine points from the stripe. Bobby Howard added 17 points and 12 boards for the Bobcats, with MSU's effort spoiling a scintillating individual effort by Anthony Johnson (31 points for UM).
Montana State 56, Montana 54 – Big Sky Tournament First Round – March 7, 2009
Call it Bynum's Breakaway, or Will's Waltz, or whatever you'd like. With Montana State leading by one and time ticking off the clock, Bobcat guard Will Bynum converted a steal into a layup and free throw, sealing MSU's stunning Big Sky Tournament victory. That win propelled the Cats all the way to a berth in the league championship tilt, where only a controversial and bitterly-contested block-charge call at the end of the game kept MSU from advancing to the NCAA Tournament. But on this night, Bynum's 15 points led the Bobcats – he was the only MSU player in double-digits. Divaldo Mbunga (11 rebounds) and Erik Rush (10 boards) helped MSU to a 40-29 advantage on the glass.
Montana State 62, Montana 60 – January 15, 2005
Ja'Ron Jefferson's three-pointer at the buzzer gave Montana State a huge early-season win at Montana, Mick Durham's fifth and final win in Missoula. Jefferson finished with 25 points and five steals, while Marvin Moss added 13 points and eight boards for the Bobcats, who won despite shooting only 38% from the floor and being out-rebounded 42-30.
Montana State 76, Montana 56 – March 2, 2002
In the second of a 20-20 regular season against the Grizzlies – two 20-point wins by the Bobcats – league MVP Jason Erickson scored 14 points and Casey Reynolds added a dozen points and 11 rebounds in a game in which the Bobcats never trailed. UM would gain a measure of revenge a week later by beating the Bobcats in the Big Sky Tournament, but MSU made history that spring by whipping former Grizzly head coach Stew Morrill and his Utah State squad for the first-ever Bobcat victory in the NIT.
Montana 84, Montana State 82 in overtime – February 10, 2001
It wasn't a Bobcat win, but what a game! MSU overcame a nine-point deficit in the last six minutes, tying the game on a John Lazosky three-pointer as regulation expired. Lazosky scored MSU's first five points in overtime, but Shane Christensen – the future Harlem Globetrotter – was too much, scoring four of UM's 10 points in overtime and playing terrific defense.
Montana State 87, Montana 84 at Sentinel High School – January 30, 1999
Danny Sprinkle and Nate Holmstad capped their spectacular careers by leading MSU to a convincing win over Montana, playing its home games for a season at Sentinel High School while Dahlberg Arena was being renovated.

A three-point barrage by obscure freshman Glen Allen helped Mick Durham secure his first victory in Dahlberg Arena.
