Bobcat Spikers Open at Big Sky Newcomer

The Montana State volleyball team will take its first trip to Big Sky Conference newcomer North Dakota to open its 2012 league slate.

BIG SKY CONFERENCE OPENER:
The Montana State volleyball team will open its 2012 Big Sky Conference slate this week as is travels to league-newcomer North Dakota, Thursday, Sept. 13 in Grand Forks. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. (MST) in the Betty Engelstad Center (3,140). Following its trip to the Peace Garden State, the Bobcats will face Big Sky Conference preseason favorite Northern Colorado, in Greeley on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in Butler-Hancock Pavilion.

QUICK RECAP:
Montana State went 2-1 at the Ohio University Bobcat Invitational last weekend in Athens. MSU opened with a 3-0 win over Belmont. In its second match on Friday, the Bobcats upset Niagara 3-2 after trailing the Purple Eagles 2-0. Niagara is coming off three consecutive NCAA championship appearances. In the title match, MSU fell 3-0 to Ohio - a squad with a top 50 RPI.
THE SCOUTING REPORT:
Montana State will face North Dakota on Thursday night in Grand Forks to mark UND's entrance into the Big Sky Conference. The two teams have met only once before at the University of Wyoming Invitational, Sept. 5, 2009, with North Dakota claiming a 3-1 victory. Currently, UND is 4-6 overall after going 1-2 at the Ole Miss Tournament last weekend. UND's lone win was a 3-0 decision over Alabama A&M. North Dakota has been paced the past three weeks by Lexi Robinson, a 5-11 outside hitter from Ramsey, Minn., who has averaged 3.32 kills and 3.24 digs per set. Northern Colorado, who was the preseason pick to win the Big Sky Conference this fall, is currently 7-2 overall. The Bears have dropped matches to Tulsa and Creighton and own a notable victory over Oklahoma. Northern Colorado holds a 12-3 advantage in the all-time series, including the last 12 outings, all in Big Sky play. UNC has been led this season by Tambre Haddock, a 6-foot outside hitter from Longmont, Colo., who averages 3.29 kills and 3.47 digs.
QUICK SETS:
Montana State's six victories this season match its win total for all of the 2011 campaign which saw the Bobcats post a 6-23 overall mark... Coming into the season, senior Macy Page had accumulated 113 career kills in three seasons. After just three weeks of action this fall, Page has already logged 100 kills, while owning a .272 attack mark...setter Jennifer Lundquist leads MSU with a .463 attack mark. On the season, the Surrey, British Columbia native has committed just two hitting errors...junior Sarah Horton is currently ranked second in the Big Sky Conference averaging 4.03 kills per set. She has posted three 20+ kill matches this season...Nicole Baker and Taylar Barney rank fourth and sixth in the Big Sky, respectively, averaging .47 and .38 aces per set...Baker is also listed ninth in the league averaging 3.50 digs per contest...Barney is also listed third in the conference averaging 1.19 blocks per set.
