Senior standout injured during day two at NCAA Championships
Asa Staven has much to be proud of for his senior indoor track and field season at Montana State. After countless victories, program records and even twice breaking a Big Sky Conference record, he succeeded in his next goal of making the NCAA Championships. (Heptathlon Results)
Staven competed in the heptathlon at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, in Boise, Idaho on March 9-10.
After the first day of competition, Staven sat in 15th of 16 places through four events with 2,933 points.
Unfortunately, while the senior utility athlete did make the initial goal of simply qualifying for the meet, his time was cut short due to an injury during the pole vault warm-ups on Saturday and was not able to complete all seven events.
Staven was the lone Bobcat slated to compete at this year's championships.
“Asa is having an outstanding season,” said head coach Dale Kennedy. “He's earned his spot this weekend and while this wasn't the outcome we all hoped for, his injury isn't long term and we look forward to some really great things this outdoor season.”
The Bobcat Track and Field outdoor season begins March 30 at the Al Manuel Invitational in Missoula, Mont.
