Blount's return not enough to boost Bobcats past Falcons
Air Force answered a strong Montana State run to close the first half with two second-half spurts to beat the Bobcats 86-72 at the Academy on Wednesday.
"They are a team that's hard to guard," said MSU coach Brad Huse. "They play a unique style of basketball, and they had a big night from their best player."
Michael Lyons scored 29 points for Air Force to lead all players. Flavien Davis scored 17 to lead the Bobcats, while Xavier Blount netted 13 for the Cats in his first action of 2012-13. Calen Coleman and Antonio Biglow each scored a dozen for MSU.
Air Force shot a scorching 59.3% from the floor, including 10-for-22 from beyond the three-point circle. Three Falcons scored in double-digits, while four hit more than half his shots.
Montana State scored the final six points of the first half, and Calen Coleman's basket to open the second half gave MSU a short-lived lead. But Lyons' basket triggered a 13-2 run, and gave Air Force control it would not relinquish.
"I'll take 72 points on the road," Huse said. "We did a good job of attacking their zone in the first half, of getting into creases. But, we gave up too many points. They execute so well, and have a very veteran team."
