Cats hope to surpass prognostications with balance, depth
Big Sky Conference media members pick Montana State seventh and coaches slot the Cats eighth in the league's preseason projections, released Thursday.
While just Xavier Blount returns as the only full-time starter back for the Bobcats, three of the team's top four scorers return. Blount led the team with 11.7 points a game last year, while Christian Moon (10.6) and Jamie Stewart (10.4) each started on a part-time basis, but the three together suggest the offensive balance Huse is coming to appreciate on this team.
“I think this will be a versatile team, a team we can do some different things with offensively,” he said.
The coaches and media each tabbed Montana to repeat as league champions, with Weber State close behind. From that point, the polls diverge. The coaches see Northern Colorado, North Dakota, Portland State, Eastern Washington and Sacramento State filling the 3-4-5-6-7 slots, while the media goes with Eastern, Northern Colorado, Portland State, North Dakota, and the Bobcats.
Northern Arizona is picked 11th, last, in each poll, with Idaho State 10th and Southern Utah 11th in each.
