Montana State women's basketball coach Tricia Binford will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., this weekend to take part in the NCAA Division I mock selection exercise July 15-16 at the national office.
“I'm looking forward to the selection exercise and getting a better understanding for the procedures the committee goes through when selecting teams for the NCAA tournament,” Binford said. “It will give our program a good idea of what we need to accomplish to reach the tournament.”
Binford, who begins her seventh season at MSU, is among a select group who will fulfill responsibilities typically handled by members of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee in regard to the selection, seeding and bracketing of the Division I Women's Basketball Championship. The exercise will be a great opportunity for coaches and conference administrators to engage in a “mock” process that will be educational, enlightening and helpful in creating a greater understanding of each phase of the process for the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.
Women's basketball fans are invited to follow the mock selection at two NCAA social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter.
The session will begin Saturday, July 16 at 9 a.m. (EST) and conclude at approximately 10 p.m. The participants will return the following morning Sunday, July 17 at 8:30 a.m. to continue the process and conclude at noon.
All attendees will participate in a “hands-on” exercise, including the “mock” selection of teams, seeding of those selected teams and placing those teams in a “mock” bracket. Participants arrive prepared to discuss teams, key personnel, non-conference/conference game results and will follow the “Principles and Procedures for Establishing the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship bracket.” The NCAA staff will guide the process and members of the women's basketball committee will be in attendance for assistance purposes.
