Former All-Big Sky Bobcat begins his professional career in August
All Bobby Howard wanted was opportunity. Thanks to an all-conference career at Montana State, the former Bobcat forward's chance will come in Romania.
Howard signed his first professional contract with CSU-Sibiu in Romania's professional league, and departs for Europe in late July with an August 1 reporting date. “The level of play, playing in the Big Sky Conference, and the coaching I received at Montana State, I believe, has prepared me well for this professional basketball experience,” Howard said. “My goal is to continue to grow as a player. Hopefully my career will span numerous years. I'm excited and looking forward to this opportunity.”
Projected in his customary four-man role, Howard wrapped up a sensationally productive career at MSU this spring. He finished 11th in school history in scoring with 1,366 points, and his 160 three-point field goals stands sixth in school history. His 119 career games in the Blue and Gold places him in a second-place tie in school history with Nate Holmstadt and teammate Erik Rush.
Bobcat coach Brad Huse lauded Howard for his work on and off the court during his time at MSU. “We are very proud of Bobby and we're excited for him as he moves on to the next level,” Huse said. “He had a great career at MSU, and while he'll be missed, we embrace seeing our graduates succeed professionally.”
Two other Bobcat seniors also continue explore professional options in Europe. Danny Piepoli has been involved with teams in Italy, Spain and Greece, while Erik Rush is expected to play in Sweden next winter, a country in which he holds dual citizenship.
