Pfeifer brings experience, regional ties to MSU
George Pfeifer, a veteran college coach with deep Treasure State ties, has joined the Bobcat men's basketball program as an assistant coach, MSU coach Brad Huse announced Tuesday.
Pfeifer rolled up a 296-208 record at Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho, from 1989-2005. He joined the University of Idaho staff as an assistant for the 2005-06 season and took over as the program's head coach the next season. He became MSU-Billings' head coach in 2008-09, serving until this spring.
“George is known in coaching circles for his knowledge of X's and O's and his relentless recruiting efforts,” Huse said. “He'll turn over rocks in the recruiting process and he's a great communicator with colleagues and players alike. George brings a positive and infectious attitude and personality to our program and to Bobcat Athletics, and will be a tremendous resource for me and our players as he's been a head coach for 27 years and has over 30 years of college basketball experience. He'll bring fresh ideas to our program and I know the players will enjoy being around Coach Pfeifer as he'll bring them an experienced and knowledgeable voice. You can't put a price on the experience he has in this game. We're fortunate to add such an experienced and accomplished coach as Coach Pfeifer.””
Pfeifer set Lewis-Clark's career wins record at 296, including a 31-win campaign in 2003-04. He led the Warriors to its first-ever NAIA national tournament. After graduating from L-C State in 1979 Pfeifer coached high school basketball in Idaho and Montana before joining the Rocky Mountain College staff as an assistant in 1984-85. He also served as RMC's head women's coach from 1985-87 before returning to his alma mater as assistant men's coach.
“I am very proud and humbled to be a part of the Bobcat Basketball program,” Pfeifer said. “The opportunity to work with Coach Huse and the current coaching staff, some I have known for more than two decades, is very exciting. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with what appears to be a talented group of returners and newcomers. I know the strength of MSU is the people – the individuals that work here and the people who support it, I feel blessed to be amongst this group.”
Huse indicated that Pfeifer will assist in all phases of the Bobcat program, with an emphasis on recruiting and team and game preparation.
