Bobcats Close Pre-Conference Season with Trip to The Pit

MSU returns to Albuquerque for first time since 1996 NCAA Tourney
Montana State's only previous visit to the famed Pit in Albuquerque didn't end well, but it's a pleasant memory just the same.
MSU Game Notes vs. New Mexico
The Bobcats lost to Syracuse at University Arena, widely known as The Pit, in the 1996 NCAA Tournament, a blowout loss that was only a four-point spread at halftime in spite of the fact that MSU largely played without Nico Harrison. Tuesday, the Bobcats may be just as significant an underdog, facing 8-2 New Mexico on its home court.
MSU dropped a 59-36 contest at Pepperdine on Sunday, the team's second straight lost, and an old nemesis did in the team. The Cats shot just 28% from the field on the way to the school's lowest scoring output since the 11-point performance against Idaho State in 1977.
Bobcat coach Brad Huse has left Sunday's game on the sunny beaches of Malibu. “You just move on from a game like that,” Huse said.
Tuesday's game marks a special homecoming for one Bobcat. Xavier Blount, the team's leading scorer at 12.5 points per outing, comes face to face with a Lobo player he describes as "a really, really good friend" in wing Chad Adams. The two played together at Highland High in Albuquerque, before Blount moved to Virginia for his senior season to live with his father.
After Tuesday's game, the Bobcats take a brief Christmas break before gathering in Bozeman early next week in preparation for the opening of Big Sky play. Montana State hosts Eastern Washington on December 28 at 7 pm.
