Four high school standouts have signed national letters-of-intent with the Montana State women's basketball program, announced MSU seventh-year head coach Tricia Binford.
Signing with the Bobcats are Peyton Ferris, Twin Bridges, Alexa Dawkins, Bozeman, Jasmine Hommes, Lynden, Wash., and Lindsay Stockton, Spokane, Wash.
“This is probably the toughest and most competitive class we've signed at Montana State,” Binford said. “We are extremely excited to have all four of these student-athletes in our program. They're excellent on the court, in the classroom and have outstanding character.”
Peyton Ferris, a 5-9 guard at Twin Bridges High School, is a three-time all-state and all-conference performer. In addition, she was named District 11/12 C and divisional most valuable player. Ferris led her 2009 squad to a third place state tournament finish. She also lettered in volleyball for three seasons with the Falcons. A high honor roll student, she is a member of the National Honor Society.
She is the daughter of Tom and Bobette Ferris.
“Peyton is as physical a player as they come,” Binford said. “We considered her the top player in the state at her position. She is a tremendous scorer and gets to the free throw line, as well. Peyton is a very skilled player and possesses a great passion for the game.”
Alexa 'Lexi' Dawkins, a 6-1 forward from Bozeman High School, has developed her game in the shadow of the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. A three-year letterwinner, Dawkins was a first-team all-conference performer for the Hawks, last winter. In addition, she was named her team's top defensive player as well as most improved. Dawkins played an instrumental role in leading BHS to a State Class AA title. She comes from an athletic family as her father Dale Dawkins was a wide receiver with the New York Jets.
She is the daughter of Dale and Lori Dawkins.
“Lexi is a great athlete that fits our up-tempo style,” Binford said. “She'll help take our defensive game to another level. Lexi, with her size, will create a lot of match-up problems for our opponents. She is a very skilled player and we're extremely happy to sign a Bozeman kid.”
Jasmine Hommes, a 6-1 forward from Lynden, Wash., has helped guide the Lyncs to a 72-12 mark during her tenure at Lynden Christian High School. As a junior, she averaged 19.2 points and 11 rebounds per game, en route to being named the Bellingham Herald/Whatcom County Player of the Year. Hommes is also a two-time first-team all-state selection and garnered Northwest Conference MVP honors, last winter. In the past three seasons, she has been instrumental in leading the Lyncs to three state tournament appearances. Hommes continues a strong family pedigree with the Bobcats as she is the niece of former Montana State All Big Sky Conference first-team selections Blythe (Hommes) Hintz and Brooke (Hommes) Svendsen.
She is the daughter of Craig and Annetta Hommes.
“Jasmine provides us with a lot of versatility,” Binford said. “She is a stronger, more physical forward and will give us strength under the boards. Jasmine is another match-up problem for our opponents. She comes from a great basketball family and her competitiveness will give our program an added boost.”
She is the daughter of John and Nada Stockton.
“We watched Lindsay throughout the summer and she was one of the best rebounding guards,” Binford said. “She is a great competitor and has a lot of savvy. Lindsay values every possession and has a tremendous basketball IQ. She is a very balanced player that shows up in just about every statistical category. We really like her grittiness.
“As whole, this is one of the best classes we've signed at Montana State,” Binford said. “We are also ecstatic to sign two in-state kids, and get back into Washington. This group has the potential with their athleticism, competitiveness and skill to take us to the next level.”
