A pair of freshman turned in career highs for MSU
Freshman Shawn Reid scored a career high 23 points, but it wasn't enough to carry MontanaState in a 72-70 Bobcats loss at Seattle on Monday night.
MSU was doomed by a shooting dry spell of nearly eight minutes that carried into the last moments of the game, along with 38 percent shooting in the second half. Seattle also out-rebounded the Cats 46-35.
"They really extended their 1-3-1 zone" in slowing MontanaState's offense in the second half, said Bobcat coach Brad Huse. "We had some deep corner looks that if they go in we feel a lot different right now."
MSU led 41-36 at halftime, but Seattle's Aaron Broussard finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds to carry the Red Hawks. Seattle grabbed 21 offensive rebounds.
"Our interior guys didn't rebound with them," Huse said.
Along with Reid, freshman Jeff Budinich also registered a career high, netting 13 points. Huse was pleased with the play of his team's bench. "That was a bright spot," he said. "Shawn and Jeff gave us some great minutes, Tor (Anderson) did a nice job, and Jourdain Allou was the guy that rebounded with them. That was a positive for us, the play of the bench."
MSU returns to action Saturday at IllinoisState.
