Jamie Stewart brings ability on both ends of the floor to the MSU program
Montana State added athleticism to its perimeter Tuesday, signing 6-4 wing Jamie Stewart from Henry Ford Community College in Michigan.
"Jamie adds a lot of athleticism to our program," said MSU head coach Brad Huse. "He is a proven scorer and someone who we think has the ability to be a very good defensive player. Jamie can change the tempo of a game with his quickness and speed, and he has the experience of playing a lot of basketball at the junior college level. That should soften the blow from losing Erik (Rush) and Danny (Piepoli) on the perimeter next year."
Stewart averaged 15.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as a freshman last year, and early in 2010-11 averages 21.5 points and 11.5 rebounds. A First Team All-Conference selection a season ago, he capped his first junior college campaign with NJCAA All-America honors. He was a First Team All-State choice at Livonia (Mich.) Clarenceville High, earning conference MVP honors as a junior and senior. He averaged 27.7 points a game as a senior, scoring 44 in one game against Rochester Hills.
Henry Ford coach Abe Mashour cited Stewart's work ethic as a factor driving him toward Division I success. "Jamie is obviously a very talented player," he said. "He can score in a variety of ways - hit a three-pointer, pull up for a jumper, drive to the basket. He is a very hard worker. He worked hard in the weight room over the summer putting on 15 lbs of muscle, and you can really tell it when he drives to the basket. He's very hard to knock around."
Stewart joins Mohamed Fall, a center from Cloud County College in Kansas, as November signees for MSU.
