Howard Leads Bobcats Past Dons for Road Victory
11/25/2009 11:01:15 PM | Men's Basketball
Junior forward Bobby Howard stood nearly as tall as Bay area landmark
Howard hit nine of his 11 field goal attempts and led all scorers, but also drew a key charge in the last minute to help MSU seal the win. His six rebounds matched Erik Rush for team-high honors. Bobcat coach Brad Huse lauded Howard's effort.
"Guys have confidence in Bobby, and they get him the ball in the right spots," Huse said. "He's letting the game come to him. When you look at how efficient he was tonight, that was important. I don't expect a 9-for-11 (shooting) night from him every night, but when he plays within the offense, which he did tonight, his opportunities will come and it frees other guys up."
Moments later, at the 6:24 mark, Erik Rush converted a conventional three-point play to give MSU a lead it would hold for all but 71 seconds of the time remaining in the game. "Our guys persevered," Huse said. "We were down eight early and fought back, and we just persevered. Veteran teams deal when things that don't go your way on the road, and we did that tonight."
After the teams played on even terms for most of the second half,
"This is a quality win," Huse said. "
The Bobcats limited
Dior Lowhorn scored 19 points and grabbed nine boards for the Dons, while Rush scored 16 points with six boards and five assists in support of Howard's scoring explosion. Branden Johnson added 13 points for MSU.
