Dean Alexander-Voice of the Bobcats, 1973-present Years at MSU: 1973-present Honors earned: 6-time Montana Sportscaster of the Year UPI Montana Broadcaster of the Year Family: wife Mary Ann, children Craig, Regina, Brian, mother Mabel Hometown: Peoria, Illinois “It’s difficult to imagine MSU football and basketball on the radio without Dean. Always prepared, professional and accurate, he is the best listen to in the nation. No one does-or will ever do-it better for the loyal fans of MSU.”-Former MSU SID Arnie Sgalio When Dean Alexander arrived in Bozeman to join the Bobcat play-by-play team in 1973, he had no idea he would be in it for the long haul. “I’m either the dumbest guy around, or I’ve got things figured out,” he’s said many times since. After a quarter century of bringing the excitement of Bobcat football and basketball to fans across the world, the answer to that rhetorical question is pretty apparent…Dean has things figured out. Alexander is nearing a magical milestone. He has been part of 904 Bobcat broadcasts (257 in football, 647 in basketball), and should reach 1,000 sometime in 2003. this year marks the 25th year of Alexander’s tenure as Voice of the ‘Cats (he had a two-year hiatus in the late ‘80s). Among Alexander’s color men are Mike Gastineau of Seattle’s KJF Sports Radio, Colorado State assistant football coach Mick Delaney, and Atlanta Falcons assistant Bill Kollar. Alexander and his current partner, MSU Associate AD Dan Davies, have worked 12 years and 127 games together. They comprise the longest-running tandem in school history, and in the Big Sky Conference.
