SENIOR: Balian (Strand) had an outstanding senior season which culminated in being named to the All Big Sky Conference Second-Team and Big Sky Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year…finished first on the team and second in the Big Sky Conference averaging 8.9 rebounds per game…her 277 boards on the year were the third most ever recorded in a single season at Montana State…ended the 2010-11 campaign averaging 13. 1 points, while shooting 39 percent from the field and 76 percent from the free throw line…averaged 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per contest…led the team with 48 blocked shots…is MSU’s all-time leader with 163 career blocks…became just the third Bobcat to record over 1,400 points and 700 rebounds in a career…posted 23 double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 24 points against Northern Colorado and Portland State…notched ten double-figure rebounding games, including a career-high 17 boards vs. Cal State Bakersfield…registered six double-doubles…became MSU’s all-time leader with 124 career games played…finished 10th in the league in scoring, 14th in field-goal percentage, 1st in blocked shots, 7th in offensive rebounding, 1st in defensive rebounding and 5th in minutes played…finished career ranked among top 10 in nine statistical categories…was a four-time All Big Sky Conference Academic selection and was a two-time CoSIDA District 7 Academic First-Team honoree.
JUNIOR: Had an outstanding junior season and earned Big Sky Conference Second-Team honors, as well as Co-Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year accolades...led team in scoring averaging 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 48 percent from the field...smashed MSU’s single-season (66) and career blocks (115) records...also set Bobcat single-game record with 7 blocks against Sacramento State...posted five double-doubles and was in double-figure scoring in 28 of 32 games...notched career-high 22 points at Northern Colorado and 16 rebounds against Sacramento State...named Big Sky Conference All-Tournament, after averaging 16.7 points and five rebounds in three games...an All-Big Sky Conference Academic pick.
SOPHOMORE: Averaged 9.9 points and 4.3 rebounds as a sophomore...recorded one double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds against Sacramento State...notched 15 double-figure scoring games, including season best 19 points against North Dakota...hit five 3-pointers against Idaho State...was second on the Bobcat squad, connecting on 33-of-93 three-point attempts...named Big Sky Conference All-Academic.
FRESHMAN: Played in 31 games, including 18 starts…averaged 9.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game…notched 15 double-figure scoring games, including a season-best 19 points against Denver…registered eight double-digit scoring games in Big Sky action…notched the most points by a Bobcat freshman (300) since Kati Burrows...posted a season-best nine rebounds in Montana State’s win over Utah Valley…ended season shooting 48 percent from the field, which was the best mark on the MSU squad…connected on 27 treys on the year…went 76 percent from the free throw line…finished first on the team with 24 blocks…named to Big Sky All Academic team.
HIGH SCHOOL: A McDonald’s All-America nominee, averaged 15.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a senior...guided King’s High School to a 25-2 mark and a 100-9 record during her tenure...was an AP first-team selection...set school-record for most blocks in a season...member of Washington 2A state championship squad in 2005 and 2006...named the Cascade Conference MVP.
PERSONAL: Born August 26, 1989…daughter of Roger and Anne Strand…has a sister Rachel Zupke, who played four years at Seattle Pacific…married to Aaron Balian, Aug. 17...involved with Athletes in Action…is a nursing major.
