Transfer Policy
Student-athletes interested in exploring the possibility of transferring are encouraged to speak with their coach prior to taking any action.
Please refer to the MSU Transfer Policy for further details, and additional NCAA transfer information can be found here.
NCAA Transfer Portal
A student-athlete who is interested in transferring from MSU to another institution should, (1) talk to his/her coach, (2) complete the Notification of Transfer ARMS form to add his/her name to the NCAA Transfer Portal, and (3) complete the NCAA Division I Transfer Module (link is on the Notification of Transfer workflow). Compliance will add the student-athlete's name to the Transfer Portal within two (2) business days of the request. Generally, student-athletes may not be placed in the Transfer Portal outside of the sport's Transfer Windows. A student-athlete is not in the Transfer Portal until he/she receives an email from transfer@ncaa.org.
Incoming Transfers
Per NCAA Bylaw 13.1.1.3, MSU coaches are not permitted to speak with students currently enrolled at other 4-year institutions, until the student's name is visible on the NCAA Transfer Portal. For non-NCAA Institutions (e.g., NAIA schools), permission-to-contact is granted by the student's current institution. If permission is not granted or the student is not in the NCAA Transfer Portal, MSU coaches may not attempt to contact the prospective student-athlete. If the prospective student-athlete ultimately attends MSU without receiving permission-to-contact, athletically-related financial aid may not be granted to that student-athlete until he/she has attended MSU for at least one year.
A prospective student-athlete who was not a final qualifier (upon finishing high school) and who is enrolled in his/her first year at a two-year college may not be contacted in-person, off of his/her institution’s campus, for recruiting purposes. All eligibility and transfer requirements for transfer student-athletes must be met per MSU's Eligibility Policy prior to participation in intercollegiate athletics. "Participation" includes, but is not limited to practice, receipt of athletically-related financial aid, and competition.
