MSU opens college rodeo's 2026 championship event in Casper
(June 14, 2026) –Sophomore Hailey Burger posted a 2.3 in breakaway roping and junior Cole Gerhardt scored a 75.0 in saddle bronc and to pace a group of seven Bobcats competing during the Bulls, Broncs and Breakaway Matinee to open the 2026 College National Finals Rode (CNFR) in Casper, Wyo. on Sunday.
Burger stands tied for sixth during the first go of the breakaway roping, while Gerhardt's ride places him in 17th place during the first go-round of bareback riding. Sunday's action kicked off the six-day competition to decided college rodeo's national champions that features three rounds throughout the week and Saturday's championship go.
Five other Bobcats failed to post marks on Sunday. Freshman Tahj Wells failed to complete his rides in bull riding and saddle bronc, while freshman Cooper McNiven posted no score in saddle bronc and sophomore Holden Atkins failed to complete his bull ride. Junior Rachel Ward and sophomore Haven Wolstein failed to mark in breakaway.
The event continues with slack throughout the day on Monday.
