Bobcats defeat Fighting Hawks for third-straight year to move to 2-0
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Montana State women's tennis team earned its second victory in as many days with a 4-3 win over North Dakota at Choice Health & Fitness on Sunday morning.
The Cats collected the doubles point and won three singles matches as Angel Bean provided the clinching point with a three-set victory at No. 3 singles, helping the Bobcats defeat the Fighting Hawks for the third-straight season. The Bobcats come away from their first week of play with a 2-0 record while North Dakota falls to 1-1.
"What a match – I'm so proud of how our team battled today against a very tough North Dakota team," Montana State head coach Hailey Barrett said. "We started the match by winning the doubles point again, which was huge for us. Then Lola earned her first dual match singles win, Terezie won another tough match to go 2-0 on the weekend, and Angel played tough in the big moments to clinch the match. This was a full team effort today, and we are happy to finish the weekend 2-0. We will have a short week and then will look to use this momentum in Colorado. Go Cats!"
The Bobcats earned the doubles point for the second-straight day as Lola Bean and Kavya Khirwar posted a 6-2 win over Simone Cameron and Alyssa Giupponi at No. 3 before Angel Bean and Nia Gelashvili earned the clincher on court two with a 6-2 decision over Alva Norberg and Linn Svaerd.
North Dakota tied the match at one point apiece, winning its singles match at No. 4 before Montana State quickly struck back with a pair of victories at Nos. 6 and 5. Lola Bean earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Cameron, and Terezie Stverakova added a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Svaerd to put the Cats back in front, 3-1.The Fighting Hawks picked up their second point with a win on court one, but Angel Bean halted any chance of a North Dakota comeback, defeating Norberg, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, on court three to seal Montana State's team victory. The Cats went on to win, 4-3, as North Dakota won its final point at No. 2.
