Two Montana State freshmen earn academic recognition following stellar debut seasons
BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Eva Heinz and Hannah Boraas were named WGCA All-American Scholars, the organization announced on Monday.
Criteria for selection to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics and continue to demonstrate the high-level academic achievements of our players. To be selected, a student-athlete must have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, be an amateur and on the team's roster through the conclusion of the team's season, and have played in 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team's conference championship.
Heinz and Boraas were key contributors as freshmen on the best Montana State women's golf team in program history, as the Bobcats finished with four of the top eight scoring averages, six of the top nine individual rounds, and five of the top six 54-hole team tournament scores in program history.
Heinz, a freshman from Goodyear, Arizona, holds a 3.90 GPA while majoring in sociology. Heinz finished 26th at the Big Sky Championship, helping the Cats finish fourth overall. The freshman also ended the season with the sixth-best scoring average in program history (75.40), and the best scoring average by a freshman in program history. The Arizona native shot two rounds of 68 this season, each tied for the tenth-best round in MSU history.
Boraas, a freshman from Alexandria, Minnesota, holds a 3.83 GPA while majoring in business marketing. Boraas finished t-30th at the Big Sky Championship, helping the Cats finish fourth overall. Her rounds of 73 and 75 over the first two days of the tournament were huge in helping keep Montana State in striking distance entering the final round and push the Cats in front of the Griz to earn a Brawl of the Wild point. Boraas also shot a 68 at The Clash at Boulder Creek in October, tied for the tenth-best round in program history.
Kameryn Basye and Maddie Montoya earned WGCA All-American Scholar honors following the 2022-2023 academic year.
