Sophomore thrower won both the discus and hammer at Cat-Griz Dual on Saturday
FARMINGTON, Utah – After a dominant showing in a Cat-Griz Dual win for Montana State, Elijah Jackman was named Big Sky Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Jackman, a sophomore from Tigard, Oregon, won the discus and the hammer throw on Saturday as the Bobcat men won their 11th dual meet against the Grizzlies in the last 13 competitions.
The sophomore's discus mark of 174-10 catapulted him to No. 7 all-time in MSU history, and is tops in the Big Sky this season. Later in the afternoon, Jackman's mark of 208-08 in the hammer pushed him up to No. 4 all-time in program history in that event—that also leads the conference.
Both performances marked PRs for the thrower, who is off to a sensational start to his sophomore season helping lead a strong Bobcat throws group.
Jackman currently leads the Big Sky in both the discus and hammer after Saturday, and ranks fourth in the shot put.
Jackman's weekly honor is the fourth such award for the Bobcats through four weeks of the outdoor track and field season, joining Ben Perrin (April 1) and Sydney Brewster (March 25, April 1).
Montana State travels to southern California this week to compete in a pair of meets in the Los Angeles area. The Brian Clay Invitational will be hosted by Azusa Pacific in Azusa, California, while the Pacific Coast and Beach Invites will be hosted by Long Beach State in Long Beach, California. Both meets begin Thursday and continue through Saturday.
