Strong Nordic Performance Highlights MSU’s Day at Colorado Invite

The Montana State Nordic team put four racers in the top 10, two on both the men's and women's side in the 7.5K freestyle on Friday at the Colorado Invitational at Howelsen Hill. Leading the contingent was sophomore Tilde Baangman, who placed third overall.

Baangman, who reach the podium for the fourth time this season, finished the course in 23:11.7. Also, in the top 10 for MSU was Kate Oldham, ninth, 23:36.1. Katey Houser completed the Bobcats' scoring, placing 14^th in 24:21.7. The MSU trio recorded 74 points, the highest output for a Bobcat squad.

Other MSU finishers included Rosie Whittington-Evans, 17^th, 24:50.2, Anna Pryce, 18^th, 24:53.0, Emma Albrecht, 25^th, 25:29.9, Lily Murnane, 26^th, 25:31.0, Delaney Jackson, 29^th, 25:52.4, and Helen Wilson, 34^th, 27:40.5.

Colorado's Anna-Maria Dietze won the event in 22:26.1.

The Montana State men were paced by the one-two punch of Kai Meyers and Fredrik Nilsen, who finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Meyers posted a time of 20:12.2, while Nilsen registered a clocking of 20:13.8. Florian Winker completed MSU's scoring finishing 12^th in 20:47.5.

Gavin Galyardt, 18^th, 21:23.7, Phineas Fischer, 23^rd, 21:51.3, and Joel Power, 28^th, 22:45.6 also finished for the Bobcats.

Denver's Andreas Kirkeng captured the men's individual title in 19:35.2.

Bobcat sophomore Justine Lamontagne led the MSU alpine team at Steamboat Resort placing fourth in giant slalom with a two-run total of 1:51.88. Lamontagne, a product of Mont Sainte-Anne, Quebec, Canada, posted the third fastest opening run in 54.91. Also, scoring for the Bobcats were Lana Zbasnik, 16^th, 1:53.65, and Nellie Talbot, 17^th, 1:53.76.

Yvla Falksete, 22^nd, 1:54.62, and Brynne Hitchcock, 26^th, 1:55.51, also finished for MSU.

CU's Magdalena Luczak won the event with a two-run total of 1:51.02.

Isak Staurset guided the Bobcat men's alpine squad finishing 11^th in 1:57.18. Gianluca Boehm, 14^th, 1:57.25, and Tanner Perkins, 18^th, 1:57.50 also produced points for MSU. Perkins, a sophomore from Crested Butte, Colo., registered the third fastest second run in 59.05.

Jamie Casselman, 24^th, 1:58.58, and Dawson Yates, 33^rd, 2:00.96, also recorded times for the Bobcats.

DU's Cooper Cornelius won the men's giant slalom title in 1:55.51.

At the midway mark of the CU Invitational, the Buffaloes sit atop the team standings with 350 ½ points, followed by DU 327, Utah 285 ½, MSU 261, Alaska Anchorage 210, Westminster 111, Alaska Fairbanks 110, Nevada 62, and Colorado Mountain 44.

The slalom and 20K classic events will begin Saturday morning.
