Maisee Brown and Grace Gilbreth sweep Big Sky women’s weekly track awards ahead of conference championships
FARMINGTON, Utah – Senior pole vaulter Maisee Brown and junior distance runner Grace Gilbreth were both named Big Sky Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
The awards mark the first weekly honors for the pair of Montana natives this season.
Brown, a senior from Billings, was named Big Sky Women's Field Athlete of the Week after breaking her own personal record in the pole vault three times on Friday at the Big Sky Tuner in Worthington Arena.
Brown cleared the bar at 4.06m, 4.16m, and finally at 4.20m (13-09.25) to improve her mark as the No. 2 vaulter in program history, behind only two-time NCAA champion Ellie Rudy. Brown's mark of 4.20m leads the Big Sky this year and is 38th nationally.
Gilbreth, a junior from Bozeman, was named Big Sky Women's Track Athlete of the Week after winning the mile on Friday at the Big Sky Tuner with a converted time of 4:44.0, the third-fastest mark in school history.
The Bozeman High School product was one of three Bobcats, alongside Kendra Lusk and Ava Weems, to set top-ten program marks in the mile over the weekend.
Montana State track and field travels to Spokane, Washington, this week to compete in the 2024 Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at The Podium powered by STCU. Competition starts Thursday, February 22, and continues through Saturday, February 24.
The meet will be streamed on ESPN+.
