GAME #2: Bobcats Host Third Pioneer League Foe in Last Two Seasons When Morehead State Visits Bobcat Stadium

MSU faces first opponent from Kentucky but second straight 'MSU' foe
BOZEMAN, Montana - Week two is high on the list of any football coach's favorite time on the calendar. Brent Vigen is no different.
"We're in our routine now," Montana State's second-year head coach says. "This routine is what we're made for as players and coaches alike."
The routine of MSU's second week of the season peaks on Saturday, when the Bobcats host Morehead State of the Pioneer Football League. Kickoff is 1:30 pm in Bobcat Stadium.
The Cats enter week two fresh off a 40-17 win over McNeese. The Eagles dropped a 63-13 tilt to nationally-ranked Mercer. Morehead State played Mercer in a week zero opener, taking last weekend off. Vigen expects a different team in Bobcat Stadium.
"I anticipate improvement from game one to game two," he said, "and having a week off will be a factor. Morehead had real success against the run game and the pass game a year ago. Mercer got behind them passing the ball and took advantage of their aggressiveness. They like to play a lot of guys near the line of scrimmage."
Vigen said the Eagles are balanced and explosive on offense when at their best. "They went 7-4 last year so they were a good football team. They threw for a lot of yards, but lost a very productive quarterback and talent at running back and receiver."
Chance Harris rushed for 60 yards to lead the Eagles last week against Mercer, carrying 14 times. Grady Cramer completed 16 of his 24 passes (one touchdown, one interception) for 95 yards. Kyle Daly caught five of those passes for 36 yards.
The Bobcats leaned on an old ally in the season opening win against McNeese State, rushing for 359 yards. Lane Sumner, in his first start since 2019, gained a career high 159 yards. Jared White, a true freshman making his Bobcat debut, gained 89 yards.
Montana State's defense allowed just 303 yards to McNeese, 75 yards on one run. Sebastian Valdez logged 2.5 sacks and Callahan O'Reilly picked off two passes in the opener.
The Morehead State game airs on ABC Montana stations around the state except in Billings and eastern Montana. SWX (503 on cable systems, 8.2 over the air) broadcasts the game there, and Bobcat Radio Network stations around the state carry the game.
