For the fourth consecutive year the Montana State volleyball team was honored for its work in the classroom earning United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award recognition.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale. It marked the seventh time in program history that the Bobcats have been honored for its work in the classroom. MSU also won the award in 2002, 2003, 2010, 2012, 2019, and 2020. The AVCA started recognizing team academic excellence during the 1992-93 season.
"With all that we have achieved in my time at Montana State, this annual award remains the greatest point of pride for me," said Bobcat head coach Daniel Jones. "National recognition of the effort that the team puts in the classroom is greatly deserved. We have worked hard to recruit outstanding young women both on the court and in the classroom. This award reflects not only the academic talents of our team, but also the character of the individual and their commitment to excellence. There is no question this team continues to build upon the legacy of those who have come before them."
In all, more than 1,200 collegiate and high school volleyball teams earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season.
"Academic achievement does not happen by accident," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "I'm so proud of the hundreds of coaching staffs that make excellence in the classroom a priority."
Last fall, the Bobcats placed nine players on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic squad. Eight of the league's ten schools earned USMC/AVCA academic honors.
