EUGENE, Ore. – Montana State's Lucy Corbett cleared her first two attempts in the women's high jump en route to Second Team All-America honors on Saturday, June 11, at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.
Corbett got her day in the high jump competition off to a strong start. The Bozeman high school graduate cleared her opening heights at both 5-feet, 7.75 inches (1.72m) and 5-feet, 9.75 inches (1.77m). As the bar raised to 5-10.75 (1.80m), a steady rain that had been featured throughout the day became a downpour for the field of high jumpers.
The two-time Big Sky Conference outdoor champion and program record holder became one of five casualties at the height. Only eight jumpers eventually cleared the 6-foot (1.83m) mark in a field that was highlighted by 20 jumpers that came in with marks of at least 6-00 this outdoor season.
Corbett tied for 15th in the women's high jump thanks to clearing her first attempts at the first two heights. She earned Second Team All-America accolades for the second consecutive outdoor season. Corbett became just the second multiple-time All-American outdoors in the Bobcat women's program's history. She joined Ellie Rudy who took fourth in 2007 and sixth in 2006 in the pole vault at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
MSU's four All-Americans in Corbett (high jump), Duncan Hamilton (steeplechase), Drake Schneider (400 hurdles) and Levi Taylor (steeplechase) combined between the Bobcats' men's and women's teams are the most in a single season in school history.
Several Bobcats now look ahead to the USATF Outdoor Championships that will take place again in Eugene. The meet is scheduled for June 23-26 at Oregon's Hayward Field.
